Sometimes, I feel like my house smells like a mechanic and two boys that sweat live here, not to mention us girls – I know, we smell like roses
…and then I realize company is coming…so I pull out a saucepan, add enough water to almost fill the pan, add about 2 tablespoons of vanilla (maybe 3) as well as about 4 drops of peppermint extract…and put it on the stove…over medium heat until it boils and then to low for a simmer. This makes your whole house smell YYYYUUUMMMYYY. You can make many varieties of this…I have used orange juice and vanilla as well.

Yummy! I’ve always used cinnamon and the odd coffee bean in mine–will try vanilla! Started using my dip-size crockpot instead of a pan after too many times forgetting to add water every hour or so and burning the pan.

What a wonderful idea! I have a vanilla-mint candle that’s almost burned down, and the maker is expensive. This would be a wonderful (and inexpensive as long as I don’t use my Mexican vanilla) alternative!

Wow, awesome idea.
I have a son with chemical sensitivities and I’m always looking for “natural” ways to scent the house.
I’m going to have to try this!
